15th Statistical Control Unit - unit responsible for maintaining the USAAF aircraft inventory during WWII
The codes are actual from two different systems - the longer words are code names given to most anything needing a code word (OVERLORD, UTAH, GOLD, JUNO, SWORD, and so on are this type of code); the four character codes (BEVY, GLEN, etc) are shipping destination codes used after the beginning of 1943 when the US military realized that every time they sent out a shipment with a code name on it the code was compromised.
