Hi Mike--

Were I a bit nearar Ottawa I'd take your suggestion about CAM's Canada Day event. Never have managed to get to that.
:
: As for the Beau not being stored inside, it is understanda
: ble. Their storage area of their current building is PACK
: ED! Things are fitted in tight. It is possible to see mo
: st stuff, but not worth the trouble to take a picture. Wi
: th the amount of stuff they have, something simply must st
: ay outside. It is unfortunate it is the Beau, but what wo
: uld you prefer? The Bolingbroke? The Battle?
:
You're right...in fact the stored stuff was arranged in advance on a computer, to fit as many airframes in as possible. Quite interesting, actually!

: I have been getting the feeling that the National Aviation
: Musuem has been taking a beating in this thread. Althoug
: h a government funded (and I assume run) organization, the
: ir collection, for the most part, is immaculate. Although
: the collection is not large, it must be ranked with the b
: est in the world. They deserve a break considering their
: space restrictions. I only wish they gave more opportunit
: ies to volunteers.
:
I certainly have no intention of "slamming" CAM; as you say, they have a fine collection, and have produced a number of first-class rebuilds on limited resources--notably the magnificent one-of-a-kind surviving Curtiss HS-2L. Also, one of my hobbies is aviation art, and I've enjoyed numerous art-centred events hosted by NAM/CAM over the years--they do at least as much to foster interest in air art as any other organization I know of in Canada. But...the plight of the poor old Beau still bugs and mystifies me!

Cheers

Steve
