In addition to the 20 GBP flypast pays, I believe they pay about 10 GBP if a picture is published in the "Feedback from the readers" section. I believe they dont pay out unless you accumulate a min amount from contributions.
I had one photograph submitted in the Feb 2002 issue but had not recieved any information that it was going to be published. If not for the fact I happened to be in US at that point of time and just picked up the issue as a matter of fact purchase, I would have no idea about it if i had been sitting in India!
As people said, its more about contributing and seeing your contribution make a small difference that gives you the kick rather than the money. Ofcourse once in a while the money does go a long way in subsidizing your hobby. for example If i manage a page with four photos in a mag, that would take care of half of my website hosting charges!
