On my way back home, I stopped at this former AFB (Perrin AFB), Sherman, TX.
I saw a Douglas DC-7 Carvair conversion, and shot a few pics; same for a Convair C-131 and a Convair either a 440 or a 580
When asking for permission to take the pictures, a very nice guy indicated that they had some fighters inside a hangar, and said I was welcome to go in.
This is what I saw:
MiG-17F N-217SH
MiG-21 N-9307
MiG-21 N-21EV
NAA F-86L N-3169W (52-4239) pristine, although engineless.
L-29 N-29NR
Iskra N-604J
Iskra N-718J
All of the above, at the "Fightertown Aviation, Inc." hangar (903) 786 - 2666.
Another hangar, different group (RB Airframes, Inc) (903) 786 - 9777 had:
Vought F4U-5N, NX-43RW (Lone Star Flight Museum)
Hawker Fury NX-24SF (one of the Iraqi Furies), in Royal Australian Navy colors.
There was a DC-3/C-47 being overhauled, panels, wings, etc. removed, corrosion treatment being provided, and a new paint job applied. This one (no N-number visible) belongs to the Cavanaugh Museum in Addison, TX.
There was, finally, another Iskra, this time, no N-number visible, being re-fit, new instrumentation, removal of military equipment, etc. I was told by Terry Rogers, of RB Airframes, that this particular Iskra shows on the Jane's airplane identification booklet, in overall black. Now it is white overall, with wavy green camo lines, kind of a winter camo scheme.
I had a great time, so much so, that I did not pay too much attention to the bunch of aerobatic planes practising for the North Texas Aerobatic Competition to be held today and tomorrow!
Saludos!
Tulio
