I think that converting a suitable derelict Lancaster airframe (Sandtoft or Sandown, I never seem to keep the two apart) into a Machester is simply a reversal of what they did at AVRO's in 1940.

I personally would love to see such a conversion. And about using Viking wings for a flyable Wellington. Why not, the problem would be to find such a set of wings. Besides the Halifax reconstruction at Elvington also used Hasting wings which were after all Halifax wings adapted for the Hastings including the partnumbers.

The bottom line would be in my opinion that if it was done in the factory of in the field all those years ago then why not now.
