: Interesting stuff. But about Russian Lancasters,
:
: What happended to the several Lancasters (617 and 9 squadr
: on) which forcelanded in the Russian wastelands while
: they were attacking the Tirpitz?
:
: I have seen a photo of a Lanc that bellylanded (see Lancas
: ter at war I or II, Ian Allan). It was taken from the air
: and it was clearly to be seen that the four engines had ma
: de four trenches in the soft mud when the aircraft slid al

There have been several strong rumours about the discovery of an ex 617 Lanc in a bog [ intact] over the past few years. I have it from a good source that Jim Pearce is hot on the trail of this one .... if anyone has the experience to bring her out from Mother Russia , he has !
There is also a possibily that a converted Lanc is still in use as a cargo hauler operating from a remote Russian airfield . Anything is possible in a country that size.
I can't wait till Jims' book comes out ;-)
