If there were in fact 55 gallons remaining, was that in one tank, or divided up amongst 2 or maybe even 4 tanks?
I could see 5-10 gallons per tank unuseable fuel in a plane of that size, that would only leave fumes. Even if all 55 gallons were in one tank though, a P&W 1820 burns what, 65 gallons an hour in cruise? Times 4! Even if you could pull the power back to 35 GPH per engine, that is still only about 15 or 20 minutes to dry tanks IGNORING the unuseable fuel issue...
Maybe when the plane is restored AGAIN, they can check the amount of unuseable fuel. My guess is that it is about 55 gallons!
