Rob,
The last time this was discussed on this board I believe you mentioned you were sorting through numerour crash reports in the area to try an determine the ID of the F4U-4 used as the basis of the restoration. I assume you have had no luck so far. If you are ever able to nail it down please let us know here!
I agree with you that it may be more appropriate to consider this example a replica, or maybe a Corsair restored with components from various sources. As warbird enthusiast, I am more of the serial number nut variety. I agree with those that say it is just important to see them fly again. As for the historical side as long as we know the original part sources as a "multi-id".
