Dan - The 'bottom line' here is that it comes down to honesty. I have no problem with rebuilding an aircraft such as the Twin Otter from a crumpled wreck - this is a continuation of it's life. Even if it was incredibly damaged there was still enough of it to make it feasible to rebuild - quite simply put if it had crashed and burnt in a pile you wouldn't have a Twin Otter - in this you did have enough to resurrect her.
I am not doubting the talents of the rebuilders - any thing can be replicated or reproduced in this age.
What does spring to mind is that if I had spent hundreds of man hours rebuilding a warbird - I wouldn't have a problem in saying that I had built it from scratch and letting people make their own minds up as to whether they consider her a 'Mustang' for example.
The point with all this is simply honesty - if you roll her out of the hanger as an F-4U as long as you say
that you bought a data plate and built her I don't see anyone objecting to this - if however you are incredibly vague about where she came from and what is actually 'original'in her well you are inviting critism .
