In reply top Tony, what about the engines found last year? N/T posted by Cees on Thu Jun 13, 2002 08:11:18 AM
Dear all,
13 engines have been found in October 2001 at the Airoprt of Frankfurt:
7 Jumo 213, 2 DB 601, 2 DB 603, 1 DB 605 and 1 BMW 801
The Firebrigade of the Airport has saved the engines and stored them somewhere at the airport. Sometimes later a "Kommando" of the Luftwaffe Museum Berlin has arrived and has required all the engines. - Due to this many discussions have taken place on site. People from Fraport (Airport company of Frankfurt) decided that the Luftwaffe Museum has to left 2 Jumo 213 on site.
All other engines have been transported to the Museum at Berlin. - It has been said that one DB and one Jumo engine has gone to a Museum at Gelnhausen / Bundesland of Hessen.
This as a sort of payment by the Luftwaffe Museum Berlin to the owner of this museum who has given the Luftwaffe Museum the needed information about the engines which have been found at Frankfurt....
Now the situation concerning the ownership of the engines is quite unclear. The engines would be legally owned by the Bundesverm?gensabteilung der Oberfinanzdirektion Koblenz.
This institution has said that they have many inquires about the engines (especially form restortion companies, warbird owners).....
So lets see where the engines will be placed/stored in the near future!
regards
Olivier
