Unarmed isn't a warbird? What about the mosquito?

Hello all,
I think, as others have said, that a warbird is any aircraft that served in a military capacity.
If the definition is limited to aircraft that can defend themselves, you exclude aircraft such as the Mosquito bomber, which, I believe, was unarmed. And what about all the unarmed photo recce aircraft that served? If coming home with bullet holes doesn't qualify an aircraft as a warbird, what does?
