Fighter plane makes emergency landing
It was like the Second World War all over again on Monday when a German fighter went down in afield near Henley.
The Messerschmit MEI08 took off from White Waltham Airfield but was forced to make an emergency landing in a field after suffering engine problems at about 4pm.
Airfield chief flYing instructor David Coe said the pilot and navigator escaped injury in the incident and a textbook emergency landing had saved the aircraft from damage. "The World War Two plane was flying locally from the airfield when the engine ran rough and the pilot decided to make a precision landing in a field near the river," Mr Coe said.
An RAF rescue helicopter had been dispatched but returned to base when the two on board confirmed they were safe.
The pilot was able to successfully fly the Messerschmit out of the field on Wednesday.
