: First "Crashed" is a pretty strong word for what happened.

I mean crashed as in broken, not airworthy, and nobody fixing it at this time to my knowledge. Also, there isn't much time left to fix it and get it packed and shipped across an ocean, then through customs, reassembled, and test flown in time for the show.

If I recall correctly, the lower cowling was smashed from the Harold Beal crash at Reno ('81?) and it was more expedient to repair it with fiberglass- so maintaining the original shape was a matter of preference. It hadn't flown much at all after it was repaired, so Pearl Harbor the movie was probably the most exercise it had seen in some time.

Fruitless speculation? "Enquiring" minds make it all the more exciting in my opinion! Maybe a surprise visit by a Whirlwind???? Kept airworthy over the past 57 years by the pilot that flew her during the war and put in his (large) garden shed for safe keeping after he bought her surplus for 50 (old, not new) pence... Or maybe that B-24 that was spotted on the moon will make an appearance? Would you believe the 109 that landed in Russia with the skeleton of the German pilot at the controls will be on display?
