I know a Spit crashed in Zimbabwe is the early 1980's but this is an interesting thread on the whys, wheres and whats
Subject: Re Rhodesia/Zimbabwe
Mike Drapers mails re C172s reminded me of a home video I was shown in '85/'86 of a Spitfire rebuild project somewhere in Zimbabwe, the film showed the restoration work, ground running, then first flight which resulted in a crash killing the pilot. The owner of the Video was a medical products rep who had returned to the UK having left a PA 28R on homestead/farm his following threats due to his connections with Ian Smith.... now he claimed the crash had political overtones as the Spitfires owner was also under "considerable pressure". Was out of the hobby at the time so overloked to note the serial... can anybody comment on this. Mike Kemp
