I hate to play Devil's advocate, especially here where I just KNOW I'm going to be taken to task for it, but if it weren't for tractor pulling, boat racing, air racing, etc, we probably wouldn't have as many warbirds, engines, parts, or specialty shops manufacturing new parts, pieces, and even whole aircraft. I'm not saying that that Allison engine on ebay SHOULD be used for tractor pulling or whatever, but IMO the odd sacricial lamb over the years has benefitted the rest of the herd immensely. Many of the people in those businesses/hobbies did more (albeit sometimes indirectly) to ensure the survival of all of this stuff in the long run than they did to use it all up.
