I remember ages ago an interview with Mark Hannah in which he said he new of a story about an I-16 that was supposed to be sat where it had fallen on top of a hill. This could be the same old apocraphal story of the aeroplane in a cave but it is a nice idea. Even now large bits of Spain are still very sparcely populated and there must be something out there. I guess the only that could have survived would have been the Luftwaffe stuff. Even the more modern stuff like I-16's was still going to contain a lot of wood which would not have survived particularly well in the Spanish climate.
The idea of the surviving Ju88's is interesting. Were they ever used in Spain ? I don't think I have ever heard of it.
A long time ago, either on this site or the Warbirds Worldwide story there was a story about three Civil war era aircraft in either a river or a lake. Once again could be another story produced by someones furtive imagination.
Finally there just has to be a few more CASA 2.111's out there. Considering the longevity there has to be a few tucked away somewhere, be they crashed or simply sitting in a hangar. I also don't believe that the scrapyards were that efficient to erase the remainder. Look at how much stuff has still come out of scrap yards until relatively recently in the UK and this is in a much more industrialised environment than Spain.
