My friend at the museum in Madrid wrote about the rumoured Heinkel in USA:

"About the Heinkel 111...absolutely no news. I knew that some people from the Museum and the Spanish Air Force has been looking for it in Southern Spain, in spite of the story sounds very strange from the very beginning. Maybe there is a confussion with the last Heinkel sold to USA, recovered (I think) from Leon AB or a scrapyard close to."

So, until I see a photo or a confirmation from a good source I regard the He 111H-6 reported gone to USA in AM August 2001 as not confirmed.

: Hi all,
:
: I was wondering is anyone on this board knows anything abo
: ut any potential recoveries in Spain?
:
: During the Spanish Civil War a lot of aircraft were shot d
: own on both sides. The Condor Legion used this war to test
: their new types in combat while the opposing sides used a
: variety of type among which the Polikarpov I-16 Rata. As
: Spain had close contacts with the Germans they used also a
: lot of types apart from the Messerschmitt Bf 109, such as
: Ju88, HeIII, He115 etc.
:
: We all know that Hispano Buchons and the Merlin engined He
: -III came from Spain as well as Rob Lamplough's 109E which
: was found on a dump in the eighties, but there have been
: rumours that Ju88's were to be found still in Spain, and w
: hat about crash sites in remote areas?
:
: What do you think.
