bdk,
I have always enjoyed your posts and suspect you are at Chino from time to time, I will be there the next three days, so ask around... As for the Tempest, I believe that the Sabre was a wider and heavier engine, a tough stretch for a narrow Griffon, and finding a propeller for the Griffon to fit wont be easy either. The vertical fin and rudder are easy enough to change, but it becomes quite a stretch, as you are not enhancing performance or reliability. It is real hard to beat the look and utility of the Sea Fury/3350 combination as a sport aircraft in my mind, and a Griffon mod will be more expensive that a Centaurus (possibly). So for higher cost, lower reliability and questionable lineage you can replicate a Tempest, but why? There are more deserving airplanes that need restoring, like the FR-1 and the AM-1 at Chino for instance... In any case Brian Sanders will fly their Argonaut at Chino this weekend, and that will give me the SF fix I need for the next few months or so...
JOE
