The getmapping.com maps are published as a VERY BIG & VERY HEAVY photographic atlas of England & Wales at c ?100 (sometimes found discounted at c?80). AS already said, the maps are from good old fashioned aerial survey. Publication date was late last year. I think Scotland will be published later. It's very impressive and attention was paid to precise edge matching. Can't remember the scale, but it's not constant - builtup areas are shown in greatest detail.
