Duxfords Spit Mk24

I saw a recent picture of the refurbishment being carried out on this Spit at Duxford over on the Flypast forum. It appears that it is not being fitted with either an engine or mount. It has a prop/cowling hanger tubular frame fitted instead.
Did this airframe used to have an engine when it arrived?
