I know of course that these books can be very useful in making someone interested in warbirds but what's the use by repeating old stories over and over again, instead of just writing facts just to make a quick profit. If they just keep getting repeated over and over again the myth is accepted as fact, especially when the reader is new to the subject.

Perhaps that is also why there are no significant books on the Whitley (Elliott, your chance) or the Defiant (other than what Air Britain did on the subject).
