You certainly can't expect to do a project of this magnitude without some mechanical setbacks, even today. You can't think of everything or find every flaw, especially since the aircraft was not as well developed in service compared to something like a Mustang. When you reverse engineer, you don't have the benefit of "tribal knowledge" of what was a critical dimension in the design and what was not as important.
